Aldi shoppers ‘need’ new 99p Jo Malone dupe car freshener but are missing one kind

Jul 27, 2023Jul 27, 2023

The Aldi team once again hinted at the product being a dupe

Aldi shoppers are obsessed with the chain's new car fresheners. The shop posted them to their official Instagram page, where they have 367k followers.

They wrote: "Check out our Car Air Fresheners...perfect for the average Jo. Are you choosing Blackberry & Bay, Pomegranate, or Lime, Basil & Mandarin?"

The Hotel Collection car air fresheners cost 99p each and come in three scents: pomegranate, blackberry & bay or lime, basil & mandarin. They're supposedly dupes of Jo Malone's car diffusers.

The diffuser itself costs £48, while a lime, basil and mandarin refill is £28. While the other scents available for the diffuser aren't similar to Aldi's, Jo Malone does sell products with both 'pomegranate noir' and blackberry and bay scents.

On Jo Malone's site, a pomegranate noir to-go scent costs £42. There's also a reed diffuser, which costs £74 for 165ml. A full set of pomegranate products, which includes the diffuser and a candle, costs £130.

Jo Malone also has a blackberry and bay diffuser, which costs £74. It has five stars from reviews, with one person writing "I bought this diffuser a few days ago and I love it, it has a very nice smell, it looks very nice, and it does a very good job at filling my room with the amazing smell of blackberry bay."

On the other hand, the pomegranate version only has 3.3 stars. One person said "Smells as strong as ever, the last one lasted nearly 12 months, and still smells whilst empty. I was reluctant to buy again, following a lot of negative reviews, however, I made the purchase anyway and I'm glad I did."

However, another wrote: "I first had this product last year, as a gift and it was amazing! The scent was subtle, but recognisable as soon as we entered the house. It lasted for nearly 9months and I had liked it so much I bought a replacement at Christmas. However, the strength of the scent is very poor and didn't last any longer than three months, although there is still plenty of fluid in the jar and I do turn the reeds frequently. This product seems to be quite different from the previous one and is far too expensive so I won't be buying it again. Sorry."

While Aldi's version has no reviews yet, shoppers rushed to the Instagram comments to gush. One person wrote "Half my home is the middle aisle so I’m guessing my car will be smelling amazing too." Another added "now my car can smell like my house!"

But several people were distracted by the missing almond and macaroon scent. One person wrote "We need the Almond and macaroon scents back permanently!" Others added "Would love the sweet almond and macaroon that is my favourite" and "why did you get rid of the sweet almond and macaroon scent".
